In late January, the CTC declared the U.S. blockade as illegal and arbitrary, asserting that Cuba and its people stand for solidarity, not terrorism. They denounced the six-decade-long economic, financial, and commercial blockade as a criminal effort to undermine Cuba’s sovereignty, peace, and well-being, aiming to suffocate the Cuban Revolution.
The BCTF expressed solidarity with Cuban educators striving for an inclusive, equitable education system and with other workers across sectors dedicated to their people’s well-being in an independent, sovereign nation.
British Columbia Teachers’ Federation President Clint Johnston highlighted the 20-year relationship between the BCTF and the Cuban National Union of Education, Science and Sports Workers (SNTECD), rooted in mutual respect and a shared belief in public education’s transformative power. Echoing Fidel Castro’s words, “the strongest weapon for liberation is education,” the BCTF reaffirmed its commitment to this critical vision.
